Today was spent following up on an onsite installation job that I spent yesterday from 8 to 6 overseeing. It is for a remodel to a couple residential dorm buildings.
There weren’t a ton of different types of furniture on the project, but we did have high number counts of what we did have. Let’s crunch the numbers:
- Study tables: 160
- Study chairs:Â 640
- Lounge Chairs: 112
- Upholstery: (different fabrics have different repeated patterns that require different yardages for the upholstery to work right.)
- Yardage 1:Â 322
- Yardage 2:Â 419
- Total: 741 yards
- Side Tables: 42
- Pendant Lighting: 28
- Carpet: 7443 yards
At 8:00 AM four Semi trucks showed up bearing “gifts†for our renovated buildings.  The warehousing and moving crew  from Bailey’s Moving and Storage then began to unload and break down the packaging.
Lounge chairs were the first to be uncrated…They were tried, tested…and approved!
Next came the side tables
Last were the endless line of side chairs.
The movers weren’t quite completed by 6, so I left and came back today to make sure everything was finalized according to plan. Each piece was inspected for damage or flaws wiped down and adjusted in the rooms according to plan. Damage always seems to be inevitable on projects of this size, FYI.
These little buddies will be called into the manufacture for replacement.
This project was a change for the Owner. Where individual, rigid, built-in study spaces used to be,  more flexible furniture has taken its place for all dorm-mates to use as desired. Two dorm units were also opened up on each floor to give the residents some communal lounge areas for more comradery  – and, let’s be honest here – rough housing! The light fixtures are also made of a high impact resin to protect from breakage…like a Frisbee flying across the room. This was an attempt to make the spaces feel more like home. They aren’t too flashy, but are better than what they had and was a quick, fun remodel job.
